Greetings, all! I hope you are setting aside some portion of these long summer days to devote to the fine art of idleness. This morning I spent a few hours at the beach with my son, soaking up the sun and enjoying the surf. I also took some time to notice what the other beach-goers were doing. The little ones near us were having an all-out blast with nothing more than some wet sand and a few buckets. Some people read, some chatted and some chewed. And a few just sat there - observing, thinking, watching, being.
Being in the moment.
It's one of the toughest things to do, isn't it? I know I'm always either planning or working or going or doing. But being idle and savoring the here and now? That's quite a feat at times.
Often the closest I can get to achieving idleness is when I sit with a good book and get lost inside the pages. How about you? How do you go about getting quiet with yourself? Do you write, read or something else altogether?
