I'd like to welcome Lawrence Fisher to The Hook today. He's written a very cool book called "Kill Me Now."
Hi Lawrence! Please tell us a little about yourself and the novels you’ve had published.
I live in the greatest country in the world, Israel. I have lived here for over three decades, spending at least a decade in the armed forces. I was not born in Israel; I was born in Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe. Let that be our secret.
My military experience was great but why bore everyone with details. The army did see potential in me and sent me to study computer programming. I spent many decades programming computers to do what others wanted, not what I wanted. All I wanted was for the computer to make coffee for me.
So what happened and why should you continue reading? ROMANCE. Got your attention? I met my soulmate and it was good. Until her parents vetoed me as a mate and she said “Ciao caro mio.” I felt like I was kicked in my important places.
I picked myself up, shook everything off and said “Life must go on.” And I started dating. While on dates, my book started appearing before my eyes.
I only have one book at the moment, “Kill Me Now!” All about the lighter of the dating battlefield. It is a diary of some of my dates and some of my friend’s dates. As one reviewer said, “it is a riot”.
What genre do you prefer to write? Why?
I prefer to write with humor. Humor is a part of me. I can find the funny side in everything. So I want people to enjoy my work with me. I simply love it.
Complete this sentence: Nobody knows this about me, but I really love to... keep this between me, myself and I. If I tell you, the cat will be out the bag. I will remain a mystery. Pretend I am a superhero and my name is MysteryMan and I work out of the dungeons of solitude.
Do you have any writing rituals? Self-imposed rules? I hadn’t thought about a ritual but come to think of it, before I start writing, I go to the…TMI (too much information). When I get back, I have all ideas in my head. My rules are: Each chapter must be short. Each chapter must put at least a smile on a face. No real names are used and no place names should be used.
Regarding writing, what one piece of advice do you consider most valuable?
Whenever you get a thought, start writing. The iPhone is good for that. You can even write while…TMI. Of course, it does not have to be polished, just start before the thoughts runs away.
What do you believe to be the high points of being a published author? What about the low points, if any? It is a blast. A real ride. For people to come up to me and quote a passage from my book, does my heart good.
What are you working on currently? It is a secret, but I will tell you – the sequel. Maybe I will call it – “How I didn’t meet your mother”
What is your favorite quote (any topic)? Kill Me Now!
You’re on a desert island, which three books (other than your own) would you have with you to read and re-read until you, hopefully, are rescued? “The Dummies Guide to Building a Raft” “Bourne Identity” by Ludlum. Any James Patterson book.
How can we find you? I am here.
